Tabasept Antiseptic Solution
Treatment-resistant microorganisms and biofilms are among the main factors that delay wound healing. Treating wound infections remains one of the major challenges in wound care. To address this issue, Trita (Taba Zist Polymer) has developed and introduced Tabasept Antiseptic Spray as part of its wound care product line.
PHMB (polyhexanide) is a cationic polymer with a structure similar to antimicrobial peptides. Due to its two unique properties—broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity and biocompatibility—PHMB is considered an ideal compound for use in treating wound infections.
Additionally, betaine is a type of surfactant that reduces surface tension, enabling more effective removal of microorganisms and biofilms from the wound surface. This makes it highly effective in biofilm disruption and wound cleansing.
Upon application of Tabasept spray, its antimicrobial effects begin immediately. A thin layer of antimicrobial agents remains on the wound, providing long-lasting protection. Within approximately 2 hours, the spray eliminates more than 99% of resistant microorganisms.
First Choice for Infection Prevention and Treatment
According to the 2018 Global Wound Care Guidelines, PHMB has been recommended as the first-line choice for infection prevention and treatment across various wound types. This reflects the international trend toward selecting PHMB-based antimicrobial and antiseptic products.
Indications for Use of Tabasept Spray
Tabasept is used for cleansing, preventing, and treating infections in various types of wounds, including:
-
Medical catheter insertion sites, such as:
-
Central venous catheters
-
Urinary catheters
-
-
Stoma areas
-
Radiotherapy-induced wounds
-
Cuts and abrasions
-
Post-surgical wounds
-
Diabetic ulcers
-
Pressure ulcers
-
Burns
Features of TabaSept Wound Spray
Broad-spectrum antimicrobial effects
The PHMB (Polyhexamethylene biguanide) in this product is a positively charged polymer that interacts electrostatically with the negatively charged membranes of microorganisms. This interaction disrupts membrane integrity and leads to microbial death. PHMB is effective against a wide range of bacteria and fungi, making it essential in the prevention and treatment of wound infections.
Effective against antibiotic-resistant microorganisms (MRSA, VRE)
Treating multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs) is a major challenge in wound healing. PHMB in TabaSept is one of the most potent antimicrobial agents and is effective against resistant strains such as Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococci (VRE).
Prevents and eliminates biofilm
Biofilms are clusters of microorganisms that are highly resistant to antibiotics. The presence of PHMB in TabaSept prevents the formation of biofilms, significantly contributing to faster wound healing.
No microbial resistance
TabaSept’s formulation, containing strong antimicrobial agents like PHMB, is not only effective against resistant organisms but also does not lead to microbial resistance, ensuring consistent antimicrobial effects during infection treatment.
Fast and long-lasting antimicrobial activity
TabaSept starts acting immediately upon application. It forms a thin antimicrobial layer on the wound that ensures prolonged protection.
Compatible with various wound dressings
The ingredients in TabaSept are non-reactive with standard wound dressings and can be used in combination with all types of dressings.
Biocompatible
One of the key features of antiseptic products is their biocompatibility. The ingredients in TabaSept, including PHMB, are safe and do not harm the healthy cells around the wound.
About Wound Spray
When a wound occurs, the first and most important step is to clean it with a suitable solution. Effective wound cleaning involves removing cellular debris, exudates, and metabolic waste using a non-toxic antimicrobial solution, creating a favorable environment for healing. However, improper cleaning may damage tissue. Therefore, it’s important to use methods and materials that minimize chemical and physical injury while eliminating contamination.
Features of Wound Cleansing Spray:
-
Alcohol-free (causes no pain or stinging)
-
Transparent solution
-
Equipped with a pressure-optimized spray head to deliver antimicrobial solution effectively
-
Pressure range between 5–15 psi, which is considered safe and effective for wound irrigation
-
Contains surfactants to reduce surface tension and detach bacteria and debris from the wound
-
Formulated to be gentle on regenerative cells and growth factors
Applications of Wound Spray:
-
Acute wounds: cuts, abrasions, lacerations, punctures
-
Burns
-
Surgical wounds
-
Infected or contaminated wounds
-
Chronic wounds: diabetic foot ulcers, vascular wounds, pressure ulcers (bedsores)
How to use:
Spray from a distance of 5 to 10 cm over the wound. Clean from the center outward in a circular motion. Gently pat dry with sterile gauze. Clean surrounding areas with sterile or clean gauze, then cover with a suitable dressing to protect the wound from external contaminants.
Why Use a Wound Spray?
Only clean wounds can heal properly. If a wound is not properly cleaned, it becomes a breeding ground for bacteria, leading to infection and delayed healing. Wound sprays contain antimicrobial agents that help prevent and treat infection at the site.
TabaSept Wound Repair Spray:
TabaSept contains powerful antimicrobials like PHMB and the surfactant betaine. PHMB provides broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity and is biocompatible. Betaine helps detach microorganisms from the wound surface. According to global wound care guidelines, PHMB is the first-line agent for preventing and treating infections.
Indications for TabaSept Spray:
Can be used in both acute and chronic wounds, including:
-
Diabetic ulcers
-
Pressure sores
-
Burns
-
Surgical wounds
-
Insect bites
-
Stoma sites
-
Catheter insertion sites
Key Benefits of TabaSept Wound Spray:
-
Broad-spectrum antimicrobial action
-
No bacterial resistance
-
Biocompatibility
-
Effective against drug-resistant bacteria
